Designing Soft Exoskeletons To Help Children With Cerebral Palsy Do Rehabilitation Exercises

2020 - 2021

CP children-parents-therapists interaction

There are a large number of rigid exoskeletons on the market that can help adults with paralysis to stand and walk, but only a few exoskeletons for children, especially for children with Cerebral Palsy. To solve this problem, my research direction is to investigate the possibility of using soft exoskeleton to help CP children do rehabilitation training accurately and effectively than traditional rehabilitation methods at hospital, rather than only support them to stand and walk. The main contributions of this work are 1) descriptions of a wearable soft exoskeleton design that could support CP children, their parents, and therapists in ensuring the best rehabilitation treatment for CP children and 2) descriptions of the user interfaces design for CP children-parents-therapists interaction.

Quarantined patients-doctors interaction

We are working on re-designing the current communication method for quarantined people and medical staff by applying haptic and digital technologies to provide better reassurance. I am mainly responsible for wearable device design, which can record and visualize the patient's real-time health status. Our mission is to reduce their psychological anxiety and provide efficient and transparent services.

User Research & Product Development of Hospice Care

2013; 2019; 2020

Stackholders: Neat-death patient, their families, caregivers, doctors…

This year, we designed a platform to reconcile the relationship between near-death patients, their families and doctors, including online death education and psychological counseling. In fact, I have not been stopping exploring Hospice Care since I was an undergraduate, that was seven years ago, our group conducted an in-depth investigation into the Hospice Care industry in China. We visited several hospice nursing homes in Shanghai and Wuxi and saw many unconscious and unaccompanied near-death patients there. Last year, I continued to work with this Hospice Care topic, but focused on their feeding problem — dying patients who can only rely on the syringe to feed the liquid food. However, the syringe-feeding way does not fundamentally respect them in humanity, so I designed a new feeding bottle by using air pump structure, the outlook is similar to baby bottles, allowing caregivers to push the liquid food into the patients’ mouth in a more comfortable and dignified way.

Designing innovative gesture interaction to reshape a traditional vegetarian brand

2016

This topic is based on the brand communication of Lianhua restaurant, with traditional Chinese screens as the carrier. I redesigned the screens originally placed at the restaurant entrance, which can cover the debris and also play a certain role in spreading and promoting the restaurant culture, vegetarian culture, and Chaoshan area culture. I designed the concise and clear interaction methods and animations based on ‘Kungfu Vegetarian’ concept to display a famous Lianhua dish in all directions, to allows consumers to understand its production process, production tools and exquisite ingredients, and experience the commonality of the trendy vegetarian culture and the Buddhist culture, as well as the traditional culture of Chaozhou and the healthy concept of vegetarianism during the interaction experience.
